Allen Jones RA. British pop artists, born Southampton 1937. Part of the hugely successful group of artists, which included R. B. Kitaj, Peter Phillips and David Hockney, who were all influential in the birth of British Pop Art. In 1963 he received the Prix des Jeunes Artistes at the Paris Biennale. Elected to the Royal Academy of Arts, London in 1986.
Aside from the numerous pop art surveys in which his work is always a central component, he has had solo exhibitions at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, the Serpentine Gallery, London, the Tate Gallery, London and The Royal Academy of Arts, London.
His work is held by numerous museum collections including the British Museum, London, Chicago Museum of Art, MoMA, New York, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, the Tate Gallery, London, amongst others.
A retrospective of his graphic work was held at the Barbican Art Gallery, London in 1995. Jones' 75th birthday was celebrated with a retrospective exhibition which opened at the Kunsthalle Tübingen in 2012
